Amidst fierce debates on waste prevention and shocking images of plastic waste in our oceans, plastics experts Seufert Gesellschaft für transparente Verpackungen mbH are facing up to the challenge. Thanks to the new Eco-R-PET packaging material, Seufert is now offering packaging made from recycled plastic waste, thus helping to protect the environment. This stops plastic from ending up in our environment; instead it is recycled, processed and reused. Every year we create huge amounts of plastic waste; Germany alone produces almost 6 tonnes per year. Around one million tonnes of this waste comes from industrial sources, while the remaining 5 million tonnes come from domestic and commercial end users. Plastic waste which comes from domestic and commercial end users is referred to as post-consumer plastic i.e. plastic waste that is not involved in the production of another product. In order to ensure that this waste is not disposed of needlessly, Seufert is now offering the new Eco-R-PET material for its innovative packaging solutions. Depending on demand and requirements, up to 100% of the raw PET needed to make this material can be obtained from bottle and plastic waste, which is sorted, washed and processed in accordance with the latest technical methods. By moving towards transparent packaging solutions from post-consumer recyclates (PCR), Seufert is thus meeting the demands of the market and of current legislation, as well as achieving the objectives of the circular economy. The properties of this material are almost comparable to standard PET. It is suitable for screen printing, offset printing and embossing, and it offers the highest levels of malleability and adhesiveness. This material is suitable for a diverse range of food and non-food applications. Thanks to this sustainable material solution, Seufert is making an active contribution to ensuring that plastic and bottle waste finds a new purpose after use at the POS, for example transparent packaging solutions “made in Rodgau”.
